placenta encapsulation
Steamed Method of Preparation
The traditional method of preparation is when the placenta is rinsed, steamed (sometimes with herbs), sliced, dehydrated, and encapsulated. In the TCM theory, it is believed that the process of birth leaves mom very "yin" or cold. One way to help this is to add "yang" or heat energy. I do this through the gentle steaming process. The placenta is not cooked so it retains all of its nutrients. The TCM method also provides a slow/ steady release of energy to help mom with hormone stabilizers in the postpartum period. This method usually produces fewer pills and may require that mom take more pills for a longer period of time. (Please note that we are not TCM practitioners. Our placenta encapsulation process is only inspired by the TCM methods.) If you want to add even more warmth, we can steam with ginger and lemon.

** Raw method available by request.
Umbilical Cord Keepsake
Umbilical cord keepsakes are a great way to hold on to a piece of the birth of your child. After rinsing and making prints, the cord is cut at the base of the placenta and formed in to the shape of your choice. Many mom's choose to have the cord say "LOVE". Once formed, it goes into the dehydrator with the placenta. Once done, it will be stored in a muslin baggie for you. Keep this in a cool and dry place.
Placenta Tincture
The placenta tincture is made by taking a piece of your raw placenta and steeping it in a high quality 100 proof alcohol for 6 weeks. After 6 weeks, the placenta can be strained out and the tincture can be used. The tincture can be used during menstruation to relieve cramping, to help the transition into menopause, and during times of trauma, illness or stress after your capsules are gone. It can be used to alleviate teething pains for baby and when added to a bit of water, can be given to baby to help fight illness. Many parents say that it brings the child back to a balanced physical and emotional state. If you had a girl, the tincture can even be used by her when she begins menstruating. This will help with cramping and to balance out hormones.
Placenta Print
Placenta prints are made using a high quality card stock paper and finished with a sealant spray. We can discuss your preferences on dyes and colors. The color(s) of your choice are painted on to the placenta and then the paper is laid on top and pulled off. The placenta is rinsed off before cutting and dehydrating. Placenta prints are a fantastic way to preserve the very thing that was womb mate and lifeline to your baby.
